About the Artist

Domica Hill is a Palawa woman with ancestral ties to the northwest coast of Tasmania who began her professional journey as a secondary school teacher. However, she has since discovered her true calling in delving into the rich symbols and narratives passed down by her ancestors. Drawing upon her profound knowledge and artistic talent, Domica expertly infuses these historical elements into her creations, culminating in a captivating blend of contemporary and vibrant styles that pay homage to tradition. In her artistic endeavours,

Domica artfully weaves stories, experiences, and connections to the land she calls home, skilfully expressing the essence of her cultural heritage. Her creative process revolves around incorporating symbolic representations and storytelling elements, allowing her works to resonate deeply with viewers. For Domica, the significance of identity transcends skin colour, instead emphasising the importance of one’s history, family, bloodline, and life experiences.

Through her art, Domica powerfully communicates this profound belief, infusing her pieces with poignant narratives and evocative symbolism. Each artwork serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of her people and their inseparable connection to the land they inhabit.
