Our workshops are about connecting you with unique local artisans who are as passionate about teaching you their craft as you are curious about their creative process. Our artisans’ offer a balance of techniques whilst encouraging you to explore, discover, and integrate your own creative ability and talent. 

Workshops are offered at a general skills level, but the skies the limit once you have your new cleverness! Participation is capped to allow for a more intimate mentoring experience.

Amazing Acrylic Workshop

with Helen Evans

Learn to love acrylic, create exciting colour, surface, and texture.

This playful, hands-on workshop with artist Helen Evans will unlock the full potential of acrylic paint. Whether you're just starting or looking to loosen up your practice, you'll discover how versatile, forgiving, and magical acrylic can be.

Through a mix of demonstrations and experimentation, you'll learn a wide range of techniques, including:

  • Mixing a beautiful, rich palette from just a few colours

  • Using mediums for glazing and layering

  • Additive and reductive approaches to mark-making

  • Creating complex surface texture

  • Understanding the elements and principles of abstract art (explained in simple, friendly terms)

Helen will guide you in exploring the creative power of play—an essential but often neglected part of art-making. You'll finish the day with new skills, a deeper understanding of acrylic, and your very own abstract painting to take home.

Helen’s teaching style is relaxed, generous, and supportive, and everything she shares comes from her own studio practice.

If you've ever struggled to mix the right colour, felt frustrated by muddy results, or been overwhelmed by all the confusing colour theory jargon, this workshop is for you.

Join artist Helen Evans for a hands-on day of learning and discovery, where you'll explore the full potential of acrylic paint and gain lasting confidence in your colour mixing. Helen will guide you through her proven approach to mixing a huge range of vibrant colours using just seven paints plus white—no more overflowing paint boxes needed!

You’ll learn:

  • How to use acrylic with confidence—from mediums and brushes to layering and finishing

  • The fundamentals of colour: colour wheel, value, tints, shades, saturation, and more

  • How to mix clean, neutral tones without using black

  • Practical tips to avoid making mud

  • What all those tricky colour terms mean (analogous, complementary, chromaticity, etc)

Whether you're a beginner or want to refresh your skills, this fun and friendly workshop will transform the way you work with colour.

Still Life Workshop: "Beyond the Bowl of Fruit: Techniques and Trade Secrets."

Still-life is often misunderstood as a dry and pedestrian genre, but it holds endless potential for creativity. This workshop will show you just how captivating still-life can be and reveal the creative alchemy of acrylic paint in the process.

Known for her openness and generosity in sharing her vast knowledge, Helen is dedicated to equipping you with the tools to bring ease and confidence to your art practice. She doesn't hold back on artistic trade secrets!

During the workshop, Helen will demystify key aspects of painting still life, composition, value, colour, and technique. She’ll guide you through selecting a subject and designing a dynamic composition, all the way to creating a finished piece. You’ll also explore the diverse techniques Helen employs to create your own expressive still life.

You can expect to work on at least one still-life painting from start to finish, with plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning. Helen will offer practical demos, pro strategies, and personal mentoring to help you develop your unique approach to still life.
