Nicky moved to Reesville near Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland in early 2017, where the landscape reminded him of his home country and has inspired in his new works a more colourfully whimsical approach

The subjects of his work include animals, birds, plants, and other-worldly creatures from Irish mythology 

His works can be both confronting and comforting. He pushes the boundaries of visual story telling. Extending the use of traditional techniques beyond their usual applications to breath new vision to the story and iconography

Nicky Carey was born in Dublin Ireland. His art has visual musical qualities which embody the lilts and rhythms of his birth country.  The stories told in his works reflect his childhood memories and growing up surrounded by the rich oral histories of Celtic mythology.
