Home is very important to me. My sense of home is to connect to the landscape and all that is in it here in the Noosa Hinterland. It appears subjectively in my paintings where I am surrounded by the unspoilt nature of this place I love and the thoughts I have of past homes and place such as Cyprus where my father lives and other places where the land and sky are familiar to me.
I like to travel there in my thoughts when I paint. The nature of the oil paint allows me to do this. I often struggle with the process and the paint itself to find the truth I am wanting to connect to with light and mood while I work.
I suppose I am searching for the point where the energy vibratres and resonates to create a magical idealistic landscape that is both evocative and harmonious.
The flow of these thoughts and struggles with the paint help me to find simple truths in landscapes I feel are connected to my own being.

Katrina Pennock is an Australian painter based in the Noosa Hinterland Queensland. Having been connected to the arts for most of her adult life Katrina’s immersion in painting came relatively recently.
Having completed a Bachelor of Visual and Performing arts at the Victorian College of Arts Katrina’s creative practice has taken various forms including photography, acting and jewellery making which has informed her practice of painting.
I used ways to express my creativity, acting, photography, jewellery making however I recognised that I connected to pathways of creativity most when I began to paint.
It wasn’t until I was undertaking a residency in France that I allowed myself to freely explore the practice of painting and my confidence to use it as a language grew. I realised that I connected on a deeper level to the act of painting.
Surrounded by her rainforest home Katrina is immersed in colour and nature and inspired to make works full of emotion of the atmosphere and changing light of the Noosa Hinterland and the places that most inspire her practise.
Since undertaking the residency in 2022 Katrina’s work has been exhibited both locally and internationally in France, Sydney and Qld.
