About the Artist
Wayne Smith has been a practising freelance artist for the past 30 + years with a broad range of experience from solo shows through to venue theming, murals and public art. He completed his formal arts studies at Queensland College of Art gaining a Degree in Fine Art.
After many years working as a project artist he returned to fine art concentrating on commissions and marketing his work through retail art galleries on the Gold Coast. His preferred mode of working is developing different series of works, which, he states, allows him the flexibility and creative playfulness to explore techniques and styles appropriate to the content and subject matter at hand.
His recent move to the Sunshine Coast has resulted in the development of the two current streams of work with themes relating to earth and water. In the landscape inspired works the image field moves from abstract pattern fields through to more representational techniques. The use of bold dark line work reminiscent of woodblock prints combined with fluid painterly techniques is original and unique and invokes a romanticised other worldly element with colour, form and line generating mood and intensity.
These works come out of a deep commitment to his practice and a desire to share with others visual forms that are inspired by the natural world and elements within it. He believes bringing such nature inspired imagery into the home or business allows us to honour our connection with it.
His experience has also encompassed many commissions for residential, corporate and public settings. He enjoys collaborating with clients in bringing their dream to fruition should they wish to commission artwork for a specific purpose, size or location. His current activities are involved in collaborating with collective art outlets such as Steven Street Gallery and affiliates where his work may be purchased.
