Ella Evans’ practice is concerned with the dramatisation of flora, as a contemporary interpretation of art nouveau, influenced by her architecture degree. She aims to warp the sensation of the human scale, monumentalising flora as though you were being enveloped by the plant itself.

Ella Evans began creating art in June of 2023 during a 5 week stay in Melbourne. After completing her Architecture degree, Ella began creating works as an exploration of the southern state, to understand her surroundings and find some meaning in a place she found slightly depressing. Her passion for creativity came from the exploration of the flora in the suburban gardens of Newport, as her artworks came out of the simple act of trying to find colour in a grey Melbourne winter. Her works are realized in acrylic on board, exploring scale and structure in nature. These pieces are influenced by her architecture degree, combining precise graphic language with nature’s unpredictability. Ella references Art Nouveau as architecture has been a founding influence in her visual language.
