About the Artist

Rob Eggleston is an experienced artist and graphic designer. His work involves painting and ageing images to redefine their context within history, making them relevant today. This art evokes a calm contemplation in the viewer by prompting a poignant reflection on the great flux and tide of human history.

A fascination with comics and books inspired Rob to start drawing from an early age, sparking a lifelong love of painting, drawing, and creativity. His passion for art once led to a one-man censorship protest when a student attempted to unveil a section of a painting that had been covered by an overzealous gallery attendant. A Melbourne reporter once described his work as "affable and organic"—or perhaps they were describing the artist himself.

"I want to create the type of art that I enjoy. I also want to be challenged by it," Rob says. He is constantly painting and experimenting with different mediums and materials to produce works that inspire the viewer. Rob endeavours to find romance and beauty in the everyday scenery around us. "I want to reinterpret locations and people in a different way and try to find their unique features," he says. "The process of doing this through art is immensely enjoyable, and I hope it resonates with the viewer."

An admirer of varied art and design, Rob has worked in creative fields for over 20 years. His life is filled with artistic endeavours, with painting and drawing as his main pursuits, using both traditional and digital mediums. "It's really the thing I am good at, and I am truly grateful to be able to undertake artistic pursuits," he reflects.

Artist Statement

The "natural" world exists elsewhere; our world has been colonised by humanity. We move through a landscape of roads, poles, and structures designed to serve our needs. My subject is this human-made world and the people within it. There is a symmetrical beauty in our infrastructure and the way it ages. The natural world erodes our concrete and steel, marking everything with the passage of time. My paintings capture these marks and variations through a balance of chaos and order. We are in uncharted territory, having never before transformed the environment so completely and there's no turning back. Our system demands continuous movement, usage, and remaking.
