Inspired by the colours, textures and shifting light of the Australian landscape, Wayne Smith creates original contemporary paintings that balance bold composition with expressive surface detail. With more than 30 years of painting experience, his distinctive style transforms familiar scenery into atmospheric works rich in depth, movement and emotion. Working with layered acrylic paint and confident, graphic forms, Wayne captures the changing relationship between land, water and sky. His paintings celebrate the rhythm of the Australian environment through luminous colour, tactile texture and a strong sense of place, inviting viewers to experience the landscape in a fresh and contemporary way. A defining feature of Wayne's work is the subtle luminescence embedded within selected areas of each painting. Using a specialised painting medium, highlights inspired by moonlight absorb natural light during the day before gently glowing after dark, revealing a second dimension that emerges as the room falls quiet. This innovative technique creates an immersive viewing experience, giving every artwork a unique presence from day into night.
