I have always had a love of art; it’s been woven like a tapestry throughout my life. From a young age I had a strong appreciation of my mother’s love of a vibrant, colourful garden and this was the starting point for my interest and love of beautiful flowers.
As a young girl I was drawn to classical ballet which I studied for over 10 years. The dance, movement, drama, colour and precision that went into every step was captivating to me. This is now reflected in my painting style, capturing these floral beauties in their full integrity. -
Julie Whitehead has always been captivated by art, seeing it as a tapestry woven throughout her life. From a young age, she was inspired by her mother’s love for a vibrant, colourful garden, which sparked her enduring passion for beautiful flowers.
Her artistic journey began early, with a deep interest in classical ballet, which she studied for over 10 years. The dance, movement, drama, colour, and precision of ballet captivated her, and these elements are now reflected in her painting style, where she captures the full integrity of floral beauties.
Julie’s dedication to art led her to attend art school in Melbourne, where she completed a Diploma in Art and Design at Prahran College of Advanced Education. Her dream was always to become a professional artist, but the path was not without challenges. For several years, she channeled her artistic talents into a successful career as a chocolatier, honing her skills in a different medium.
Today, Julie’s art is a vibrant expression of energy, beauty, colour, and movement, all of which come from the heart. She is particularly passionate about painting florals, which she sees as sensual, fragile, and delicate—much like the peonies she loves to paint. These flowers remind her of the tutus she wore as a ballet dancer, with their petals resembling exquisite layers of soft, delicate fabric. Julie’s large canvases showcase the stunning beauty of these flowers, allowing them to take on a life of their own and create an intense, engaging impact.
Julie’s work has been exhibited throughout Victoria, New South Wales, the UK, and more recently in Brisbane, with her art also finding homes with collectors in the USA and UK.
