Sascha Tillsley
Patience, observation and an extraordinary eye for detail define Sascha’s contemporary practice. Whether working in intricate black ink, paint or collage, she creates contemplative works that reward slow looking, revealing beauty in both the wild and the familiar.
Working from her studio in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Sascha gathers inspiration through photography, capturing landscapes, fleeting moments and treasured objects before transforming them into richly layered artworks. Her distinctive black ink drawings explore the remnant rainforests of South East Queensland, where careful observation gives way to imagination. Delicate architectural forms and subtle figurative elements quietly emerge, reflecting the evolving relationship between the natural environment and the human presence within it.
Alongside her drawing practice, Sascha creates intimate still life paintings inspired by her home, garden and collections of ceramics, textiles, flowers and heirlooms. These thoughtful compositions celebrate the stories held within everyday objects, finding meaning in simple rituals and the beauty of the familiar.
Originally trained in archaeology, with careers spanning hospitality and interior design, Sascha brings a deeply considered perspective to her contemporary practice. Her distinctive ink drawings have been recognised as finalists in numerous art prizes, alongside exhibitions with Stevens Street Gallery and the Affordable Art Fair in Sydney and Melbourne. Her work continues to resonate with collectors through its quiet sensitivity, technical precision and enduring connection to place.
