Zoe’s ‘Summertime’ collection seeks to capture quintessential snapshots of Australian summer and beach culture. Drawing inspiration from local landscapes such as Coolum Beach and Noosa Heads, the paintings depict authentic moments in time that additionally speak to a more universal experience of the Australian coastline. Her ongoing ‘Beach People’ series melds landscape and figurative work, exploring candid connections between people and nature. Native coastal foliage often frames the works, bringing further life and context to idyllic scenes of sea, sky and sand.

Zoe’s ‘Memento’ collection is a continuation of her ongoing still life practice, which seeks to elevate the mundane and celebrate the understated beauty found within small scenes and quiet moments. Subjects such as fruit, shells and plants in chinoiserie pots and repurposed glass bottles are centred within these works. Some compositions place these items against simple backdrops, grounded by strong shadows, whilst others incorporate further contextual clues such as linen cloth, organic ceramic vessels and cutlery.

Zoe Willey is an emerging artist working on Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) Country on the Sunshine Coast. She currently works primarily in oil paint, employing a painterly style at the intersection of Impressionism and realism. A strong interest in portraiture has formed the foundation of her practice, where her core objective is capturing the intangible essence of a subject whilst remaining truthful to physical form. She approaches still life, landscapes and ‘house portraits’ with the same philosophy.
