Sascha Tillsley
-
Sascha is an emerging artist living and working in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Her practice includes photographing places and moments which she uses as inspiration for her drawings, paintings, and collage making back in the studio.
Her black ink drawings on paper are landscapes which are observed, experienced and reimagined. The central theme is the pockets of remnant rainforest in South East Queensland where she works and lives. The detailed drawings sometimes include abstract, architectural and figurative elements and speak to the convergence of the human built world which encroaches on these pockets of wild places.
Her family and home are important to her sense of well being and she enjoys painting simple still life moments that connect her to the garden and objects that she treasures. She paints arrangements of flowers, fruit, ceramics and textiles from her collection of treasured objects and heirlooms, gifted or bought in markets around the world.
Sascha completed a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University in 1996 and worked as an archaeologist and chef whilst raising children. She returned to study in 2019, completing a Diploma of Interior Design (2021) at the International School of Colour & Design Sydney and then a Diploma of Visual Art at Nambour TAFE in 2024.
Sascha has exhibited in group shows at Stevens Street Gallery and The Affordable Art Fair in Sydney and Melbourne. In 2026/2025, she was selected as a finalist in the Local Contemporary Art Prize at Caloundra Regional Gallery, and won the People’s Choice award for the Du Rietz Art Awards 2025 at Gympie Regional Gallery
