Matthew Lyndon Armstrong

Matt Armstrong (Matthew Lyndon Armstrong) connects to the beauty and simplicity of the quintessential Australian landscape with his contemporary mark making techniques; informed by his early years in the Dubbo, New South Wales.  Now based in south-east Queensland, Matt works across various landscapes using brushwork, palette knife, rough charcoal, acrylic, and ink lines, to suggest landscape movements, patterns, changing light and shadows.

Matt enjoys plein air painting which allows the artist to better capture the changing details of weather and light, usually resulting in looser brushwork and a softer style. It allows him to express the feeling of the landscape and what it means for him.

Often Matt draws on past experiences and stories from his family, place and community and projects these memories into his artworks.
