Shane Hastings
Some artists paint what they see. Shane Hastings paints what a place feels like.
Based on Kabi Kabi Country on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Shane immerses himself in the landscape before a brush ever touches the canvas. Long walks through rainforest, remote coastlines and rugged Australian bush become deeply personal experiences that are later distilled into expressive paintings created from memory rather than direct observation. The result is work that captures the atmosphere, movement and emotional resonance of a place instead of its exact appearance.
Drawing on more than sixteen years working across art, design and photography, Shane balances instinct with refined composition. Working primarily in acrylic on medium and large scale canvases, he builds each painting through intuitive layers of colour, texture and gesture, allowing each work to evolve with an energy that feels both spontaneous and deeply considered.
Living between rainforest and ocean, Shane’s connection to the natural world is lived rather than observed. His paintings invite viewers to experience the landscape emotionally, recalling the warmth of light, the rhythm of the wind and the lasting imprint that remarkable places leave long after we’ve returned home.
