I began painting in 2008 without formal art training, driven by a simple desire to learn and have fun. What started as a creative experiment quickly turned into a passion, where picking up a paintbrush transports me from the everyday world into one of endless possibilities. Time seems to disappear as I immerse myself in the process, and the act of creating feels like a true love affair with art.
Over the years, I’ve embraced a spirit of experimentation and rule-breaking, knowing that sometimes the most unexpected results bring the greatest joy. Living in a natural sub-tropical bush setting here in Australia, I draw endless inspiration from my surroundings—the colours, shapes, textures, lines, shadows, and reflections. Whether abstract or representational, my work reflects these elements, inviting viewers to explore the layers and depths within each piece.
My artworks are known for their multiple layers, as I explore the idea of looking through, into, and between the objects I paint. I have a deep love for colour and strive to push the boundaries, creating pieces that are bold and striking from a distance, yet reveal much more upon closer inspection. Each layer is a journey, and I invite you to discover the hidden stories and emotions within the art.

Bronwyn Barton is an evolving artist whose creative process is deeply intuitive and dynamic. Beginning her journey in 2008, she is constantly discovering new ways to work that resonate with her artistic vision. Living in a sub-tropical bush setting, she draws inspiration from nature's colours, textures, and forms, layering them into her work.
Her practice begins with a fast-paced, exploratory phase where she layers paint without a specific end in mind, allowing a natural sense of movement to emerge. Bronwyn experiments with various techniques, such as scraping, sanding, and adding collage, to reveal the history of the underlying layers. As her compositions start to take shape, she becomes more deliberate, making thoughtful decisions on what to keep or edit, all while striving to preserve a sense of spontaneity.
For Bronwyn, the challenge lies in balancing control with risk, knowing when to take bold steps to reenergise the canvas. Her goal is to create art that is both vibrant and layered with meaning, resulting in pieces that are uniquely her own.
